DynoConsult BOT Process Helps Iron Ore Producer Reduce Blasting Costs
Using DynoConsult blast auditing tools, areas targeted for improvement were identified. Using the Six Sigma® methodology, processes were put into place to measure and analyze various segments of the drill/blast cycle. The BOT program implemented key changes and tracked results to insure gains were identified and maintained.
Electronic Detonator Precision Allows Multiple Priming to Improve Fragmentation
Observations of the blasted material after detonation showed a definite difference in overall fragmentation and oversize. The side of the blast with primers programmed to fire at the same time showed better fragmentation and reduced oversize. Mucking of the blasted material confirmed the initial observations made at the time of the blast event.

Limestone Quarry Boulder Reduction
A specific differential energy loading technique was developed for the site while using TITAN 1000ΔΕ. This particular loading, called "sandwich" was developed as follows: a heavy density, a light density and a heavy density to improve fragmentation. Loader operators found that the fragmentation was better suited and easier to excavate for their operation.
Overpressure Report and Remedy
To relieve all restrictions to blasting, a detailed report covering all aspects of blast design was submitted to the state regulators for this mid-Atlantic trap rock Quarry. DynoConsult worked with local staff to emphasize additional vibration and overpressure control metrics to be used for all blasting at this location. 3D Laser profiling on new blast locations aided the blaster in front row loading to control the potential for gas release pulses in the face as well as enhanced overpressure readings due to block motion pulses from rock displacement velocities on free face.
Signature Hole Analysis in Transient Ground Vibration
This Mid-Atlantic Limestone operation had concerns over the off-site impact of transient ground vibration and potential complaints associated with blasting.
