Autonomous Bench - Surface Mining

Dyno Nobel is the first in the world to successfully build a fully operational, end-to-end process that can autonomously deploy initiating systems and bulk explosives on a bench at scale.

In partnership with some of the world’s leading tech and robotics companies, we have built a full solution to transform one of the mining industry's most safety-critical processes into a more reliable and repeatable data-driven operation. Our innovation tackles one of mining's last manual, safety-critical processes: the drill and blast bench.

Benefits of Dyno Nobel's Autonomous Bench

Our leading technology:

  • Can autonomously measure, prime, load, stem, and record each hole
  • Integrates seamlessly with the systems at the mine, as well as other autonomous solutions that our customers have already deployed on their site
  • Is equipped with sensors to allow unprecedented data capture and analysis, providing not only valuable management information but also repeatability and predictability of the drill and blast process
  • Autonomously coordinates processes from a control centre located safely away from high-risk zones

“I am incredibly proud that our technology is opening up a world where each blast can be safer and more precise, with less variability than the one before.  Unlocking unprecedented productivity on site, an autonomous bench is a game changer for the world’s mining industry,” Dirk Van Soelen, Dyno Nobel CTO, 2026.

Dyno Nobel will roll out the new technology in a staged pathway to mid-2027. Trials for Dyno Nobel’s Autonomous Bench technology will commence in the USA with further countries to follow.

Tunnel Load Master (TLM) – Safer, Smarter Underground Mining

To accelerate innovation in underground mining, we have a strategic partnership with TesMan, Inc. By combining Dyno Nobel’s industry-leading on-the-ground services and explosives products with TesMan’s proven robotic technologies and equipment, we are unlocking enhanced remote loading operations and reducing exposure at the face.

Benefits of Tunnel Load Master

Used in underground mining, this first-of-its-kind technology can deliver:

  • Improved safety: Operators can stay 5-6 meters (15-25 feet) away from the mine face, reducing exposure to falling rock and other hazards.
  • Higher productivity: The TLM can clean and load blast holes quickly and consistently, often matching or exceeding manual loading speeds.
  • Reduced injuries: Repetitive manual tasks such as twisting, digging, turning, and cutting are minimized, helping prevent strain injuries.
  • Versatility: The TLM be attached to various underground mobile equipment using a quick-connect system
  • Better blast quality: Data including accurate hole inspection, mapping, and loading is captured, which can improve mining advance and blasting results.
  • Remote operation: The TLM allows loading, wiring, and firing activities while the operator remains in a protected location.

“For Dyno Nobel, partnering with TesMan directly aligns with the company’s core value of Zero Harm for Everyone, Everywhere. “Our partnership with TesMan is a testament to our commitment to continually push the boundaries of safety and productivity in the underground space.” Pierre Labelle, Dyno Nobel’s General Manager, Canada East & Great Lakes, 2026
